Employment Training at Waverley Cafe
Waverley Cafe is open from 9am to 2pm, Monday to Friday.
Waverley Cafe is on Waverley Road in Huddersfield. The cafe is the base for our Catering Employment Training Scheme for people with a learning disability. The trainees in the cafe work alongside staff to serve great value, healthy food.
The café is on one level and is fully accessible to people who use a wheelchair. Outside catering, sandwich delivery and cake orders are welcome. Gluten free, diabetic and low fat options are always available.
We need your help to save Waverley Cafe
The cafe supports adults with a learning disability with employability skills, life skills and means our trainees receive hands-on real-life experience in a working environment. Our trainees are helped to live independently and gain skills useful for employers and the volunteer sector. Our trainees attend for 6 months, are given tailored personalised training. The cafe is run by our own superstars Maggie and Margaret and a team of volunteers.
We face imminent closure due to lack of funding.
Please share, support and talk about our community space, that is right in the heart of HD1.
To be a trainee in the cafe you need to have a learning disability and be planning to move on from the cafe into more training, paid work or volunteering.
While you are at the cafe you will be working towards an ASDAN Employability qualification that can make that easier. As well as learning how to clean, cook and serve customers you will also get a chance to improve your writing and maths skills and to practise travelling to work on your own.
Placements with us are for 6 months and the training part of the placement is for 2 days a week. You will also be supported to do volunteer work with us and with other organisations.
There is no charge for the training and a meal is included.
