Pay Rates

When the pay rate says “depending on qualifications” the lower rate is for people who do not have a Level 2 Diploma/NVQ in Health and Social Care and the higher rate is for people who have a Level 3 Diploma/NVQ.

If you do not have a Level 2 when you are appointed then you will complete your Care Certificate and start working towards your Level 2. Once you have your Level 2 you will receive an extra 15 pence per hour. After the Level 2 you can choose if you want to complete your Level 3. On completion of a Level 3 you will receive an extra 20 pence per hour. When you have passed your probation, you will receive a further pay rise of 25 pence per hour.

If the pay rate says “fixed rate” then it doesn’t change due to qualifications gained or length of service.

Staff get a lot of training at Mencap in Kirklees and there are no charges for any of the courses. There are also no uniforms to buy.

If you have to travel as part of your job, maybe while working on the community team, you will be paid an allowance for using your own car for work as long as you have business use insurance.
