COMMUNITY SUPPORT WORKERS

FULL AND PART TIME HOURS AVAILABLE

Hourly rate from £7.98 to £8.58

Are you passionate, enjoy working with people and want to make a difference to someone’s life? Do you want to join an innovative, expanding service at an exciting time? Then we want to hear from you! Experience is helpful but isn’t essential. Having the right attitude is. Everything we do is about the people we support, we strive to enable people to be as independent as possible, to have enjoyable and fulfilling lives, helping them to stay safe and active in their homes, community and beyond.

You will be working mainly in the Huddersfield area and may be required to work across Kirklees. As you will be moving from house to house and working in supporting living schemes you will need to be a driver with your own car available for work. Exceptions to this can be made if you are unable to drive due to a disability. Travelling time is paid as is mileage at 45 pence per mile.

The role involves working to a rota which will include some unsocial hours and may include sleep-ins. The rota needs to change from time-to-time to provide flexible support, to cover holidays and sickness so it is important to us that you can be flexible with your working hours.

We pride ourselves on being a supportive employer and applicants will be provided with a full induction and training programme. You will also need to achieve your NVQ 2 after your probation, within 12 months.

If you think you have the right attitude for this type of work and you want to make a difference to people then we would really like to hear from you.

Pay Rates

When the pay rate says “depending on qualifications” the lower rate is for people who do not have a Level 2 Diploma/NVQ in Health and Social Care and the higher rate is for people who have a Level 3 Diploma/NVQ.

If you do not have a Level 2 when you are appointed then you will complete your Care Certificate and start working towards your Level 2. Once you have your Level 2 you will receive an extra 15 pence per hour. After the Level 2 you can choose if you want to complete your Level 3. On completion of a Level 3 you will receive an extra 20 pence per hour. After 18 months of satisfactory service you will receive a further pay rise of 25 pence per hour.

If the pay rate says “fixed rate” then it doesn’t change due to qualifications gained or length of service.

Staff get a lot of training at Mencap in Kirklees and there are no charges for any of the courses. There are also no uniforms to buy or charges for things like DBS checks.

If you have to travel as part of your job, maybe while working on the community team, then you will be paid 45 pence per mile towards your fuel and car costs.

Holidays and Sick pay

The holiday allowance when you start is 22 days plus the 10 ½ bank holidays. It increases the longer you stay with us and after 6 years reaches the maximum of 28 days plus the 10 ½ bank holidays. Care staff often have to work some bank holidays and if you do those days can be booked at different times throughout the year.

After you have been with us for one year Mencap in Kirklees starts to pay sick pay. This covers the equivalent of 2 weeks full salary in the first year and rises to a maximum of 3 months full salary after 6 years.

Other benefits

Once you have been with us for 6 months you can join the work place pension scheme. Under this scheme Mencap in Kirklees also contributes 3% of your salary. You can  join Simply Health which gives you up to £75 back a year for dental bills and up to £86 a year on glasses and optician costs. You can also join Mencap Extra’s which gives you discounts on many brands and activities
