A group from our day service – The Arena – took part in the Open Court Programme, a project funded by Sport England and LTA – Tennis For Britain to increase opportunities for getting involved in the sport.
The group have already played table tennis and badminton before, but this was the first time anyone had taken to the tennis court!
It all began when the Royal Mencap Society put us in touch with our local organiser and then we took it from there!
Since then The Arena were lucky enough to be given a large bag of equipment to make tennis more fun and adaptable, and have been participating in the programme on a fortnightly basis, at Howden Clough Tennis Centre in Batley.
The coaches worked really well with each individual, helping them to build their confidence and get the most out of every session.
“I feel like I’m on TV when I’m playing as the court looks really professional” said one of our participants.
With our enthusiasm and continued service, watch this space – and who knows… all this training may lead to the nurturing of a future tennis champion!?
